After talking to a coworker lately, it has almost reaffirmed my stance, that it may be good for me to get rid of my smart phone. I, like millions of others, got lost in the OS battles, and which phone was the best, and what carriers were supreme. I still joke about it, of course.
However, I am starting to understand that to stay sane in our increasingly technological environment, that separating myself from this 1 piece of equipment may be a good choice.
Now, I am not saying I will give up a cellphone, just that an old analog phone from the Fresh Prince of Bel Air era maybe a better option for myself, personally. I started teaching myself web design 14 years ago, and have been working professionally in the business for about 11 years now. With that much time around gadgets, gizmos and mecha-godzilla; I find myself enjoying trees more over listening to more arguments on why iOS is better than Android, and vice versa.
Then again, building stuff for these platforms is fun, yet there is an amazing type of overwhelming satisfaction you get from years of training a bonsai tree, or nurturing a japanese maple into colors that make even the most sophisticated techie’s jaw drop.
I have an issue with the new iphone OS 4 being renamed to ‘iOS’
Essentially because the term “i” is used with more things than mobile, but with other software and hardware pieces for Apple as well.
Since we are speaking in ‘phone’ terms, lets use the ‘P’ instead, hence the OS should be called:
pOS
1. Apple enforces a previously undocumented app store rule.
2. Apple removes an app that it previously approved.
3. Previously Apple defending developer is the victim of the latest ambiguous policy change.
4. Developer changes their tune.
The best thing that will happen for developers and consumers in general is the strengthening of the Android platform. I can’t wait for the Android tablet devices to arrive.
Seriously Utah fans, Fisher asked for a release, a pay cut and a move to save the life of his daughter who had cancer. I don’t think you can get any more bad karma than holding a vendetta against a really stand up, good guy.
“THE JOHN TERRY/WAYNE BRIDGE AWARD FOR “MOST UNCOMFORTABLY BITTER SUBPLOT”
To Jazz fans for their continuing enmity toward Derek Fisher, who asked for his release from Utah three summers ago so he could play in an NBA city that had a hospital with an advanced eye surgery wing for his cancer-stricken daughter. He signed with the Lakers … who knocked Utah out of the playoffs in 2008, ‘09, and now ‘10. Jazz fans take this personally — even booing him during games — and conveniently forget that Utah was happy to let Fisher go in 2007 (not only was he overpaid as a backup, but it needed the cap relief for Deron Williams’ extension) and wasn’t worried about the Lakers contending at the time (since they finished 42-40 and seemed headed for a Kobe trade). A few months later, Chris Wallace gift-wrapped Pau Gasol to Los Angeles and everything changed. Not Fisher’s fault. I am all for booing Lakers players and fostering random vendettas against them, but not like this.
See, here’s what you get when you boo Fisher, Utah fans …
1. Bad karma. Goes without saying.
2. You just look stupid. Like you have no idea what actually happened. Fisher didn’t betray you by jumping to a conference rival. The Lakers were floundering at the time.
3. You bristle every time a media member calls you the most (fill in one: bitter/angry/hostile/vicious) fans in the NBA. This illogical Fisher vendetta helps you on this front … how?
My advice as a neutral party: Let the Fisher thing go. It’s creepy and ill-conceived.”
“ The hero of the Times Square bomb attempt was an immigrant. A Muslim. Senegalese newcomer Aliou Niasse was the first to notice the smoldering car and draw attention to it. He had no time left on his cell phone and realized his English probably wasn’t up to the task, so he got a passerby to call 911. In Arizona the cops would have hauled him off to jail while the car exploded. ”

“So with news of Apple now saying Abstinence is the best practice, by keeping flash and java compilers from being able to access the new iphone OS 4 platform, will Apple be the next M$?
This article written by our JibJab CTO makes a good point (http://fillup.tumblr.com/post/507567557/why-apple-is-fighting-flash-cs5), and with the cross references of Apple’s products, paralleled with Internet Explorer, will their platform see the same fate that IE is now seeing?
Would that make Android/Blackberry platforms the new Apple? Especially when one of PC homer’s biggest argument was Apple’s low market share. Now, Android/BlackBerry are in the low marketshare, currently… You can see where I am going with this…
“Hi, I am an Android, and I’m an iphone OS”
Is the iphone OS now wearing the gray polyester suit? fanboys would say no, and before you call me someone who doesn’t like Apple products, believe me I have supported Apple. I have pushed Apple products so much that I should be making commision off the amount of PC’s I’ve made friends and family throw away for a Mac.
I like my macbook pro still, but have an Android phone. Works for me.
